Raising a little girl, there is one thing I will tell her often.
You are beautiful, inside and out.
An older cousin spoke and wrote this to me countless times as I grew up. She said it authentically and almost as a prayer over me. She used this phrase in moments when she saw something beautiful in me and at times when I was on the brink of growth.
This sentence is embedded on my heart. I draw from it in moments of insecurity – internal or external. It helps guide my decisions — am I being beautiful, inside and out? My cousin probably had no clue how these words affected me, but they are powerful.
I can think of no better phrase to use carefully and frequently with my daughter.
Do you have phrases or verses you repeat to your kids? Is there a phrase that has stuck with you since childhood? Mamas of boys – what do you speak over them?
