Her memoirs inspired me in career aspirations, in love, and in the kitchen. I recommend starting with Garlic and Sapphires (hilarious!) – then read her history in Tender at the Bone and Comfort Me with Apples. She was insightful, witty, and each book was delicious.
Finally, I read Not Becoming My Mother (now called For You Mom, Finally). It is an intriguing look at the way we view our mothers and our inability to see them as a whole person. As a new mama, I wonder how my daughter will perceive me. This blog and the process of writing is part of my answer to that wondering. I can show her parts of myself, in this stage of new motherhood that she won’t see later when she studies who I am.
If you are looking for a book for the holidays – look no further. All four are excellent.
