We are now roughly six weeks into busy season, and life is going full swing. In my first post, I shared our anticipated struggles. Those were pretty spot-on, and January definitely had its highs and lows. I’d love to share a little life update.
Those of you who commented that you are in the midst of a busy season …. I want to hear an update from you too!
Zach sees Evelyn in the morning (when she is most chipper). We hang out in the kitchen, while I feed her breakfast and pack his lunch, and Zach makes coffee. This has relieved the pressure to rush home for her bedtime, and he is able to work later into the night.
I take care of our girl through bedtime, but that hasn’t been as hard as I was expecting. We alternate between easier days at home and distracting days out with friends. Teething has made some days tiring, but overall – I take it one day at a time and when bedtime comes around, I feel like I deserve a big high-five.
I’m most thankful for new blogging friendships and work, since I’m not sure how I would be spending my quiet, winter nights otherwise … probably just watching too much TV. The work of processing my thoughts and content creation is mentally rewarding, and community is good for my heart.
Exercising is mainly on the backburner, unless the weather is decent on the weekends. If Zach wants to work out, I make “yes” my automatic answer, since it is an easy stress reliever for him.
Eating healthy is our biggest win, because it is the easiest to control. I’ve been cooking more, which means healthier leftovers. When Zach eats out, he tries to be more selective about what he orders. If we can eat better, then less exercising isn’t such a loss.
We’ve also benched all BIG discussions. When my husband is mentally drained and I am emotionally needy, it’s best to focus on the work at hand. We can talk about house hunting or relationship bumps at a less stressful time. The best way we can use our words in this season is to encourage.
