Introverts have a rich inner life and have a tendency to be over-thinkers. However, we can use this to our advantage by becoming excellent at advance preparation. For events, like a blogging conference, it pays to plan ahead. Don’t underestimate the power of feeling confident in your own skin, because during the conference you can focus on the people around you. Here’s how:
1. Take note of event-appropriate outfits with a Pinterest style board (here’s mine). I’ve seen various iterations of this outfit in store windows and catalogs for the past year. Define your waist by belting the dress, then layer the chambray top over it all to stay cozy in drafty hotel ballrooms. It is flattering, stylish, and won’t leave you looking at photos of yourself with regret.
2. Spend as much time on the basics as you do on the finishing touches.
Both are equally important and can make or break an outfit and your comfort level. Tuck little notebooks and pens into your laptop bag. Keep in mind that any photographs of you will typically be from the waist up, so focus more attention and cash there.
3. Remember the power of smiling.
Introverts can tend to look impassive or even intimidating, without even mean to. Be sure to smile. Refute negative self-talk in your head, instead of compliments from others. You’ll do just fine!
