I remember being told to
“buy clothes for a Tuesday afternoon, not a Saturday night. Few people lead Saturday-night lives.“
This was a mistake I had made for years, especially in high school and college. I would fritter away spending money on fancy, frilly pieces and pinch pennies on basics that I wore 90% of the time. I still recall this advice whenever I’m shopping, and it has served me well. My closet is now a pared-down selection of my favorite pieces that are versatile and hard-working. And I love it.
BUT one goal I set for myself while pregnant with Thomas was to work on my date night pieces. I want to honor the rare, lovely Saturday nights with my husband.
I’d like to wear something that pulls me out of mom-mode; to indulge in a dry-clean only item; to honor a kid-free dinner with a kid-free type of shirt; to save something just for those special nights when we get away and can look each other in the eye across the table. I’d like to remember to be a little impractical, since my daily life is all about the practical. I believe that something as simple as an outfit can free me up for the important dreaming, exploring, flirting, and loving that take place on a Saturday night with my husband.
I don’t need a hundred of these outfits, but I think this dress and boots are prime contenders. Tell me about your favorite look for a date.
