When you find your style niche, it permeates into every area of your life. It seems funny, but I found my style through decorating my house. I learned I didn’t enjoy “floofy,” and I always want my husband to feel comfortable in our house – not like a bull in a china store. Take my fireplace mantle, for example. We use the candles on dark, winter nights. The duck was gift for Zach, and the small painting was a thrift store find to remind us of our trip to California. I painted the brick white after our first year in our house, and it brightened the whole room.
And now my outfits are starting to resemble my fireplace mantle. Lots of blues, black, grey, a glint of brassy gold, and a small pop of red. My happy place is a combination of durable tomboy and pared-down girly accessories. I like to have fun with my shoes, but not with a loud print on my shirt. Now, if you see an outfit I’m wearing, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what my dining room or bedroom look like too.
