I’ve learned a totally new trick in the past month: goals. I have never been a goal setter, just a list maker. But goals? I’m beginning to love them because of their trackability and brevity. Lists go on and on, never completed entirely. Goals, if done right, help me pull out the good, the accomplishment, the highlights of each week, month (and someday – year?).
My friend Jessi says, “If January is for dreamers, February is for doers,” so I’m prepared to stick to my guns this month. (It helps that I’m a finisher.)
Settle in to our home. We switched bedrooms to create a nursery, and in the process de-cluttered and simplified our house. Huge win. A few bags went to charity, and the only thing still on our to-do list is a broken exhaust fan (ahem – Babe?) Read through the Bible daily. I started a few days late, at the encouragement of Erin, but I stuck to it daily. I kept my goal list short, because I had to focus on this one. Through a challenging emotional month (postpartum can be the pits), it has been a ray of hope. Read one book. I actually have finished 3! The joys of being cooped up in the house, eh? I’m posting my book list for 2014 soon, and you can see what I read.
- Plan a few traditions to celebrate Evelyn’s birthday in March.
- Update my underwear drawer (blushing).
- Settle in to this blog, so I can just write.
- Read 2 books from my list.
- Try 4 new recipes.
If you haven’t done goals like me, start simple. Pick one goal that you’d be bummed if you didn’t accomplish by the end of the month. Leave it in the comments if you want the accountability!
