As soon as the weather gets warm boyfriend jeans become my go-to denim. Luckily all these outfits work with boyfriend shorts too, so when temperatures spike I simply switch out the jeans for shorts. This is one simple way to maintain a capsule-type wardrobe. Boyfriend jeans are versatile enough to create a sporty look and to add a laid-back foundation for a fancier outfit. I rarely, if ever, go full-stop fancy.
While going through my closet, I realized my boyfriend jeans are actually one size too big. I wore them constantly during the first and second trimesters, since they have room for all those odd places you gain pregnancy weight – hips, bum, thighs. I’m planning to tuck them away with my other pregnancy clothes, and purchase the same pair one size down. These outfits work best if the jeans are just slightly baggy.
If you’re looking for the perfect denim to wear instead of sweats, boyfriend jeans are the solution.
Halfway Fancy … for dinner out at the club house by my parents’ cottage. I keep thinking how that sounds like the story line of Dirty Dancing. I promise it’s not like that!
Sporty … for a zoo trip to visit the new orangutan exhibit.
Halfway Fancy … for a haircut + coffee date to catch up with my best friend from high school.
Halfway Fancy … for a date night to eat steak + frites outdoors with Zach.
A few tried + true tips if boyfriend jeans are a new look for you:
- Don’t buy the destroyed, ripped version. They’re less versatile, and look ratty after washing.
- If the traditional “boy jean” doesn’t fit you well, try Caroline’s tip to buy straight jeans one or two sizes up.
