Lately I’ve been sitting in the same rocking chair for a few hours, nursing and holding Theodore, while partaking in tea parties or meeting toy animals, directing the construction of a train track, or helping Tommy put on the same superhero cape ten times. It’s busy with moments of intense sweetness, but also sometimes a bit mindless. One of the things I love/hate about this stage is the amount of time available to brainstorm and dream, while being able to physically accomplish very little outside of nourishing a baby and changing all the tiny, tiny diapers. Often my brain is going a mile a minute, and my body is going 0 mph.
Most of my daydreaming revolves around self care. I haven’t had a good beauty and skincare routine since my early teenage years, when my mom took me for a consultation at Clinique. As a thirty-year-old, with three kids, it just feels like it is time. Otherwise I’m going to lose any semblance of youth really quickly. These nights of no sleep are doing a number on my face. So, I’ve been studying a lot, probably too many, skin care regimens and “what’s in my makeup bag” posts to try and come up with a semblance of a plan before I start spending money.
It is no secret that I always like to strategize my wardrobe, and as I near the day when all my clothes will fit again, I literally pulled out all my clothes and played around with them during nap time yesterday. I’m aiming for a combination of minimalist uniforms and capsule wardrobes. Brainstorming cute outfits while I sit in cozy sweatpants and enjoy the perk of winter – not having to leave my house or pjs all day long.
So, without further ado, an accounting of the bits and bobs that are floating around in my head, on my screen, and in real life.
…A fun book series I just finished Perfect for winter evenings.
…Still using ThredUP. I shipped them another bag of donations and scored a Madewell dress I LOVE (for free!).
…My favorite nursing bra.
…I fell down a rabbit hole reading this blog, so straightforward and lovely.
…Effortlessly cool hair. The dream!
…Devoured all three seasons of this show.
…Turns out hats disguise hair loss, who knew? The Everlane beanie is my fave (so are mild January days).
Now, I’d love to hear….
What fun traditions do you have for Valentine’s Day? Evelyn has told me we will decorate our whole house with hearts and pink, so I think I need to get my act together and at least plan a few little things!
And, how interested would you be in a real girl’s take on beauty, wardrobe, or home? I know they are more superficial topics, but I also think they’re plain fun to talk about. If I can keep figuring out how to get time on the computer to write, what posts would you most want to see?
