Quick question for Monday morning: How do you grocery shop?
I realized I’ve made this weekly errand pretty complicated by being picky about food and brands. I’m wondering how/if you simplify grocery shopping and what concessions you’re willing to make to keep it low-key. Here’s my dilemma –
TARGET. I make a weekly trip here and manage to do 90% of our grocery shopping, as well as pick up diapers, beauty products, and any cleaning supplies we might be out of. Since January, I’ve been making a meal plan for the week and a corresponding grocery list, so it’s a lot easier to avoid the typical over-spending you might associate with Target. Plus who wants to linger when you have a two toddlers and a baby in the cart? However, sometimes the produce and meat isn’t great (ours isn’t a Super Target).
TRADER JOE’S. Like everyone else, I love this place and usually visit about once a month. Great produce, nuts, frozen section, and dairy. Great prices. Their cheese section alone is wonderful. They hide a green monkey in the store and the kids get a sucker when they find it! I do tend to overspend on snacks, and it is farther from our home. And no diapers or other necessary supplies.
FRESH MARKET. This place is ridiculous to visit with our kids – so many beautiful, tempting displays to be knocked over. BUT I love their meat (on sale on Tuesdays) and sourdough bread. Their produce is always beautiful, and their canned tomatoes are the only ones I’ll buy. I go here maybe once a month or every other month.
MEIJER. I was able to get free prenatal vitamins at Meijer (!). So once a month, I’ll go browse the store (about 25 minutes away) and buy my favorite brand of sausage, which Target doesn’t carry. I’ve also found great deals on chuck roasts to freeze for pot roast.
Four places. Is that crazy? I feel like there is a justification for each one, but it can make my meal planning tricky. Luckily a Meijer is opening about 10 minutes from our house, so maybe that will become our new one-stop shop? So, spill the beans – what is your grocery shopping routine like? I’d love to hear!
