Today I’m sharing the hidden staples of my wardrobe. These are the unsung heroes you never actually see in an outfit post, but they’re always there just underneath it all.
No-show Wool Socks. When wearing ankle boots or oxford shoes, I often just go without socks. This works fine, but in the dead of winter I typically threw on some black athletic socks to avoid freezing. Either of these options are fine, but in January I found my ideal ankle boot + sock combination. No-show wool socks are insulating, plus they have an internal gripper at the heel to prevent sliding. (Those boots in the photo above? I love wearing these socks with them. Plus they are on major sale now.)
Black Undies. One of my all-time favorite simplification moves was cleaning out my underwear drawer and buying 10 pairs of black hipster undies. It was life-changing. They go with everything, they’re easy, and I always get to wear my “favorite” pair. Usually if you buy 5+ pairs you can get a pretty good deal on new undies. Feels SO good.
Black Thong. For a few outfits (like this one or this one) when I want to avoid any hint of a visible panty line, a thong comes in handy. There’s a reason this brand is so well-loved, since they make the “world’s most comfortable thong.”
Everyday Bra. Ok, now things get a little tricky. Maybe you’re in the same boat? Where things are outdated in your lingerie drawer, but it takes you awhile to figure out sizing, fit, comfort, and then to actually get to a store to pick something out? It’s just easier to let it slide.
After three kids, my bras were in sore need of updating. For the past year, I’ve been wearing this bra I was fitted for and bought after having our second baby (about 2 years ago). I was waiting to buy another until my body had settled down after I finished nursing our last baby. When I went to get fitted last month, I learned that it was now two sizes off!
I actually really like the VS perfect coverage bra in basic black. It’s comfortable and pretty, great for wearing everyday. But I’m struggling to order a new one in my correct size because of the brand. Ladies, what do you think about Victoria’s Secret? I get really turned off by their marketing and the store design. Do you remember when it used to be this pink and white wallpaper that felt more like a boutique? Honestly, now I feel uncomfortable even going in their stores.
So, when I got sized (at a local department store), I tried on a Calvin Klein bra, which is another great choice for a basic everyday bra. It’s minimalist and modern, certainly not as girly as the VS one. So, I just need to pick between those two and order it.
Bralette. I also really love wearing a lace bralette. They are super comfortable and beautiful. I own a couple sets from Honeydew that are nice and have been surprisingly durable. They aren’t see-through, but the one downside is the super skinny straps. Grana recently sent me some pieces from their new underwear line to try. The French lace triangle bra and thong are gorgeous. I especially like the feel of the straps and the gorgeous eyelash lace detail. They feel super high end. (If you wanted more support, the Grana lace balcony bra is also a stunner.)
Lastly, I just need to find a great strapless bra for the summer. Any recommendations?
