This past week we all came down with a cold, me included. It was enough to force more snuggling on the couch with the TV on than normal. Luckily, a new original Netflix show had just been released – Julie’s Greenroom – and my kids (and I) loved it. Julie Andrews, along with some Jim Henson puppets, explore every aspect of the theatre. One of my best memories of high school is the camaraderie and fun of being in a musical. I love the focus of the arts in this show and all the amazing ways to get involved in the theatre. My kids are eating it up!
I really try to limit both the time and type of shows my kids are exposed to, and keep things as old school as possible, for as long as possible. One of my kids is especially sensitive to scary plot lines, so we’re limited on a lot of movies. Here are a few other theatre-type shows we can (and have) watched repeatedly:
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (an all-time favorite)
Mr Roger’s Neighborhood (Fred Rogers is simply the best)
Mary Poppins (supercalifragilisticexpialidocious)
And as far as TV shows go, it’s mainly PBS Kids.
What do your kids like to watch? Did anyone go see the new Beauty and the Beast? I loved the remake of Cinderella and am looking forward to watching this new one too.
