This spring, we added a membership to the Indianapolis Museum of Art to my mom arsenal.
Raising a family in the city, it certainly pays to take advantage of the incredible museums that are right down the street from us. The art museum and especially the surrounding gardens used to be a favorite spot of ours, before we had kids. For a long time, it was completely free, but they’ve since changed to a membership program. I totally understand, but I’ve missed the luxury of being able to go picnic in the gorgeous grounds surrounding the Lilly home, strolling the art exhibits, and wandering the greenhouse stocked with flowers.
While it’s absolutely a perk to go there with the kids and spend an afternoon, Zach and I have started a new tradition of going on a walk around the gardens to kick off a date night. It’s so lovely, and helps me calm down and reset after a long day. Sometimes I run out of ideas of what to do once we have a sitter and are out the door. After a very rainy week, the clouds parted on Saturday night, and we walked together through the garden and greenhouse. It was a treat to take my time without the kids (they mostly love the art studio and climbing big rocks, ha) and the crowds had mostly disappeared since it was near closing time.
Anyways, if you’re local and have never been, the IMA is a beautiful spot in the city.
