The last time I wrote about sleepwear was in the middle of August when the temperature was hovering around 90, day and night. While four distinct seasons are one of the things I love about living in the Midwest, it means that pajamas need to run the full spectrum from hot, humid nights to frigid, snowy ones.
Our family really loves pajamas and cozy clothes. We all like to get comfy as soon as we walk in the door, and my kids adore pajama days when they can just hang out in their comfiest clothes playing all day long. It’s one of the winter traditions I miss now that our oldest is in kindergarten.
After decluttering all of my stretched-out pregnancy loungewear, my selection of warm pajamas needed an overhaul just like my summer choices. I guess decluttering kind of forced my own hand, and it was time to add a few new pieces to my now overly-minimal drawer.
So, I took a note from my kids. They all wear these soft cotton two-piece pajama sets, basically a long sleeve tee and leggings. Over time, I’ve realized that the button-up pajama tops aren’t my thing. They feel too similar to wearing a collared shirt, even though they do look very put-together. I prefer the feel of cotton t-shirts or even tank tops at night. It takes some trial and error to find what works. Here was my criteria:
- No button-up pajama sets.
- No Christmas themed pajamas.
- Neutral colors like the rest of my wardrobe.
- Comfortable + Washable.
Luckily, the holiday sales are a great time to buy sleepwear, because they are on everyone’s gift guide list, including mine. Truly, a fresh, new pair of pajamas is such a luxury gift. I think I feel about pajamas the way my husband feels about new socks. Anyways, I ordered several sets on Black Friday, and I’m sure they will all be on sale again after Christmas, if not before. These were all winners…
Grey Stripe Set, Target // For the price, these are a good option. They washed well, and I like the subtle grey and cream stripe. They aren’t super soft – more like a waffle weave cotton. I hope they soften with time and hopefully they won’t stretch out.
Pin Dot Set, J.Crew // The fabric on this set is very soft and smooth. The buttons at the top are another high end touch that I really like. They’re a cute set and my husband’s fave of the bunch.
Striped Waffle Legging, J.Crew // These feel similar to the Target version, but with better stretch. I doubt they will stretch out as much at the knees. I’m always a sucker for navy, and plan to pair these with a soft navy Grana t-shirt. (I’m also planning to order these during the next sale. They were super cute in the store.)
I also added a new pair of black leggings, because sometimes I just want to wear a flannel shirt and leggings all day. I’m trying to follow my own advice of quality over quantity, so I chose one pair of Madewell’s signature high rise leggings, instead of three pairs from Old Navy.
Cheers to cozy days ahead and some pajama days with my kids over Christmas break!
